Connected Communities
Because we are better together.
Community Outreach
Library outreach involves library staff traveling to various locations to promote library services and resources. These visits are designed to reach community members who might not regularly visit the library or are underserved.
During these visits, librarians may:

-
Provide Information: Share details about library programs, services, and resources, including digital tools and learning opportunities.
-
Host Events: Organize workshops, storytimes, or informational sessions tailored to the specific needs or interests of the group or location.
-
Offer Services: Assist with library card registration, help with research, or provide on-site access to library materials and databases.
-
Build Partnerships: Collaborate with local organizations, schools, or community groups to strengthen ties and enhance service delivery.
The goal of library outreach is to engage with the community, raise awareness about the library’s offerings, and make library services more accessible to everyone.

Little Free Libraries are small, standalone structures that serve as book exchange stations, typically placed in neighborhoods or community spaces. They function on a “take a book, leave a book” principle, encouraging people to freely exchange books without the need for a library card or any formal check-out process.

These charming, often whimsical boxes are filled with a variety of donated books for all ages and interests. The goal of Little Free Libraries is to promote literacy, foster a love of reading, and build community connections by making books accessible to everyone. There are three registered Little Free Libraries across the parish, two of which are proudly brought to you by your Webster Parish Libraries. Find a Little Free Library near you.

Homebound Delivery Service
Your libraries are dedicated to providing materials and resources for patrons of all ages and needs regardless of their living situation. We deliver materials to those who are confined to their residences either temporarily due to illness or accident, or permanently due to illness, disability or other mobility issues. Our outreach team makes scheduled stops across Webster Parish to connect individuals who would otherwise have restricted access to their community and the many benefits their library system has to offer.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library in Montpelier Vermont. Storywalk® is a registered service mark owned by the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.”

StoryWalk® provides early literacy opportunities to young children. Sharing the reading of a StoryWalk book stimulates and fosters the development of strong listening and speaking skills. StoryWalk also helps to build a child’s vocabulary which is important to thinking and learning. Developing early literacy skills leads to better preparation for school.
